We understand that receiving a massage, especially your first massage, can come with a lot of questions. Below are some questions that we get very often from clients just like you. We hope that they help you on your journey to optimum health. If we haven’t answered your question here, please don’t hesitate to call us at 970-581-2298. What to Expect 
At the beginning of each session, you and your massage therapist will discuss your personal goals for the massage.  This is a great time to describe areas that need special attention or any pain or discomfort that you are experiencing.  Your massage therapist will use this information to decide what techniques to use during the session.  You are welcome to ask questions at any time during the session, and communication is encouraged to help make your experience the best it can be.

What should I wear?
It is important that you are comfortable during your massage, so you are welcome to undress to your level of comfort.  Please know that only the part of the body being worked on will be exposed.  You modesty is always respected.

How often should I schedule a session?
Frequency will depend on your specific needs. However, the maximum benefits of massage are cumulative. Like exercise, yoga, and chiropractic care, the more that you can make massage therapy a routine component of your lifestyle, the more benefit you will derive from it. Most people benefit from one massage per month, however some need more and some need less. Your body will let you know how often you need to receive massage. Your therapist can objectively help you to decide what your schedule needs to be.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?
Your time with your therapist is important. A credit card number is required for all reserved session. However, sessions may be paid for at the time of service in any acceptable form. Your massage therapist’s time is valuable. Please respect it as you would your own. In the event that you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment we ask that you kindly give 24 hours notice by calling 970-581-2298 or pay your appointment fee in full.

I experience fatigue. How can massage help me?
In a world where we go, go, go all the time, isn’t it normal to feel a little fatigue now and again? The answer to this is yes, but when we experience fatigue regardless of good quality and quantity of sleep, a little fatigue now and again is not normal. Fatigue is your body’s way of asking us to slow down. It can be the result of stress, anxiety, depression, poor nutrient delivery, or an increase in toxic waste within the body. What ever the source, regular therapeutic massage can be very beneficial.

Diet and other lifestyle factors can also greatly effects your energy level. Poor food choices (and even some good ones!!) can leave toxins in our body. When someone has more toxins and waste than their bodies can handle and eliminate, it is very common for them to feel tired and sluggish.

Massage works to increase circulation of blood and lymphatic fluid. Increase of blood flow will increases oxygen and nutrient delivery to your muscles and organs and also increases waste removal. Improving the flow of lymphatic fluid also helps to eliminate waste and toxins from the body. When someone feels fatigued they are more likely to make poor diet and lifestyle choices, which leaves the body feeling more fatigued, and the cycle continues. Regular therapeutic massage can help you break that cycle!

When we are feeling fatigued, imagine your cells, tissues and organs are also feeling fatigued. When we increase oxygen and nutrient delivery to these tissues and increase waste removal, your cells and tissues are more energized and function at an increased and optimum level. When your tissues feel this way, you will feel more energized and function at a more optimum level.

There are many reasons someone may feel fatigue. Remember to talk to your doctor if you have a serious health issue, massage, although beneficial can not replace the care of a licensed physician when necessary.

How will massage get rid of my pain?
Massage is more effective in treating soft tissue (i.e. muscle) pain than almost anything else out there. After checking with your doctor to make sure that the pain that you experience is not a symptom of a more serious health issue, it is time to call and set up your appointment.

Muscle pain is often a result of three things: overuse or repetitive use, injury or stress. Your therapist specializes in treating soft tissue dysfunction regardless of the cause. When you experience a muscle that is tight and sore and maybe even has a “knot” in it; that muscle is overloaded with metabolic waste and needs to return to a relaxed, functional state. Your therapist will apply a variety of modalities based on your injury and specific needs to increase circulation to the area and break up the adhesion, or knot, in the tissue. Increase circulation will help to bring fresh blood, oxygen and nutrients to the area and move the metabolic waste out. This will relieve much of the pain in the area. Stretching the muscle and breaking up the adhesion, or knot, will help the muscle function better.

It is very common to experience relief for 24-48 hours after your first massage. Often client’s experience a return of pain, although frustrating, this is normal. Typically it will take 3-4 treatments to see a long lasting effect. It took you more than an hour to create this pain….it will take more than an hour to get you out of pain. The good news is that once the area of pain and dysfunction is released, when receiving regular massage, client’s very rarely experience reoccurrence of the original discomfort.

I experience depression. How can massage help me?

I hear that massage can help with detoxification? Is this true?
We have many treatments that help you with the detoxification process. Therapeutic Massage, Raindrop Therapy and Massage Cupping are all very beneficial for detoxification. It is often toxic build up from dietary choice, lifestyle factors, injury or overuse of a muscle or muscle group that causes a variety of dysfunction in the body. Can massage help me sleep better?
Yes! Whether your issue is falling asleep or staying asleep, Therapeutic Massage, Reiki and Raindrop Therapy can help you get a full nights rest. When we have trouble sleeping it is usually because there is a process within the body that is not functioning well. When we are relaxed the body naturally functions better allowing you a better nights rest.

Massage also increases your parasympathetic response; know as the relaxation response, or “rest and digest”. Often, you experience difficulty sleeping, because of stress in your life: work, home, diet and nutritional stress, etc. This causes your sympathetic response to be activated; this is referred to as your “fight or flight” response. This sympathetic response, causes the body to secrete hormones that energize us and get us ready to “fly or fight.” Therapeutic Massage activates the parasympathetic response, allowing your body to relax and rest.
